Why was AWN created?

AWN was set up in May 2002 by a group of aid workers who wanted to create a community to help others to avoid re-inventing the wheel or repeating the same mistakes.  Over 12,000 aid workers working in field and headquarters locations around the world are now registered on AWN, contributing to that community.
