Hi all, I have been working in Kenya for a local NGO joining two years ago as an intern and rising to project assistant and no project officer. I have a pasion for what am doing but I have to move to the USA after acquiring permanent residency status there. I see it as an opportunity to learn more especially on resource mobilisation in the west among other issues. is there someone who can advice me on the possibiltiy of getting to work for international development organizations based in the states but working in Africa?

Most development agencies are based in New York City and in Washington, DC., although many are also based in San Francisco (mostly focused on Asia), CARE is in Atlanta, and MeryCorps is in Portland, Oregon, Heifer International is in Arkansas, etc. Many of these agencies regularly post jobs to the job boards listed on the AWN advice pages regarding finding a job:

Your English skills need to be excellent, including your written English. This means no spelling mistakes and no obvious grammar mistakes. Having fluent language skills in another language will be highly desired by organizations. You also need to note on your CV that you have permanent residency status and a green card to work.

Network network network: sign up to receive the email newsletters of any development agencies in which you are interested and go to their onsite events. Meeting representatives from aid agencies face-to-face is the best way to network to get a job. This includes for UN positions. Again, look at the AWN pages regarding finding a job.

Not sure if you are able to work for USAID -- anyone out there worked for USAID and know about employment of permanent residents?
