MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) -- A doctor says an Italian and a Somali aid worker have been wounded and their driver killed in a remote-controlled land mine attack in southern Somalia.

Dr. Abdi Rahman of Merka Hospital, who treated the two wounded men, said they worked for the United Nations. They were not in critical condition, Rahman said. The driver died on the way to the hospital.

Merka is a port city in southern Somalia.

Earlier Monday, 52 aid organizations appealed for all warring sides in the conflict to allow aid workers unhindered access to the country. Two dozen humanitarian workers have been killed this year in Somalia.
