" THE DEFINITION OF LIVELIHOODS."

Hi!
would anyone know, if any thorough research has been done on the definition of livelihoods.
As, livelihood is multi-dimensional, covering not only economic but also political, cultural, social and ecological aspects.
My reason is that I am as part of a booklet, looking into tools for livelihood support activities.
This is proving to be a liitle harder as this seems to expand into Female-headed householders, vulnerable groups, displaced communites, refugees, and others.
Livelihood support activities vary from country to country, on the demographics of a country, and whether these countries have the technology to repair these tools locally.
Could anyone assist or knows of anything that I should look into before doing this type of research.

Jakep is right, there is a huge amount of research on livelihoods. As for definition, the sustainable livelihoods framework was promoted by DFID and definitions should be available on the websites mentioned.

NOt clear exactly what you mean by "tools for livelihood support activities" by which I first thought you meant analytical approaches, etc etc but then thought when you were discussing "repairing tools locally" that you probably meant actual,physical tools, like hoes, or bicycles.. in which case you may also look at www.practicalaction.org
